Sinhala Speech-to-Sign Language Translation System
Final Year Research, UCSC
Colombo, Sri Lanka- Developed the first proof-of-concept system for Sinhala speech-to-Sri Lankan Sign Language conversion using neural machine translation models and human-interpreted video sequences. Evaluated seven Transformer-based models with pretrained encoders and custom decoders using 17 technical metrics and human evaluation to assess translation quality and signing accuracy. Built the first video-based dataset and parallel corpus for Sinhala speech-to-sign language research to support model training and benchmarking.
