Digital Advertising Concept

What is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a free program run by Google that allows website owners and content creators (known as "publishers") to earn money by displaying targeted Google ads on their sites. These ads are created and paid for by businesses (known as "advertisers") who want to promote their products or services.

How Does It Work? The Ad Auction

AdSense works on an auction-based system. Here’s a simplified breakdown:

  1. Advertisers Bid: Advertisers using the Google Ads platform bid to have their ads shown on websites like yours. They target specific keywords, demographics, and user interests.
  2. AdSense Matches Ads to Your Site: Google's algorithm analyzes the content of your website and matches the most relevant, highest-paying ads to your available ad space.
  3. You Get Paid: You earn money primarily in two ways:
    • Cost Per Click (CPC): You get paid when a visitor clicks on an ad on your site.
    • Cost Per Mille (CPM): You get paid for every 1,000 ad impressions (views).

AdSense handles all the billing with advertisers, so you just need to provide the ad space, and Google takes care of the rest, giving you a share of the revenue (currently, publishers get 68% of the revenue).
